About Us

Our Mission

The overall purpose of the Elsie Whitlow Stokes Community Freedom Public Charter School (Stokes School) Parent Teacher Organization is to supplement and assist Stokes families, faculty and staff in their efforts to optimize the learning and social environment for Stokes Scholars.

As the Stokes PTO, we are about parents and teachers working together. Our goal is to create a better school and a better educational experience for our children. We work to create an atmosphere where everyone can do their best work.

Married to Frank, mom to Arthur - AJ (KS), and two fur babies (Calypso and Reggae). I enjoy snorkeling, sailing, and traveling to exotic locations. Fun fact: I'm from Michigan and my favorite sailboat regatta is the Chicago to Mackinaw Island Race up Lake Michigan (I've done it 15x).

Sofia Resnick

Sofia Resnick - Mom to Felix (5F) and Otis (1F). I love yoga, singing along to my kid's guitar, pretending to talk to my cats, and can't resist looking into every single free library.

Treasurer

Amelia Whitman Weisbuch

Mom to Goldie (PKSB) and Pearl (2 yo), married to Aaron, and pooch parent to Brooks . I love playing (and teaching) American mahjong, reading, food, and country music. I grew up in Austin, Texas and love Longhorn football. Looking forward to building a strong Stokes parent community with the PTO this year!

Events Chair

Lauren Showalter

Mom to Emmet (1S) and Alice (PK3S), my husband and I have lived in DC for over 10 years and enjoy biking around the city. I am an avid knitter and crafter and love spending time in the outdoors birding, kayaking and hiking with my family. I have been active on the PTO for the last 2 years as the chair of the garden committee and am excited to branch out into event planning this year.

Mom to Ornella (2F) and Oneill (PKFB). I love my hometown of Santa Barbara, the beach, crafts (when I have time!), organizing, planning, and cats — including our two senior kitties. My flagship contribution to Stokes is Staff Appreciation Week, and this year I’m excited to expand my PTO role by co-chairing communications with Lauren!

Mom to Gigi (2F) and Wesley (PKFB). I love running, going to the gym, eating great food, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. I’m excited to share my PTO role by co-chairing communications with Tasha!

Fundraising Chair

Heather Clark

Proud wife to Chard and mom to Zoë, a Stokes alum, and Cairo, who is currently in Kinder Spanish. I enjoy food, photography, playing tennis, and watching true crime shows. A fun fact about me is that I was born and raised in the other Washington, Washington State! Howard University brought me to Washington, DC, where I have built my career, family, and community.

I am excited to serve, once again, as this year's Stokes PTO Fundraising Chair for the Brookland campus and look forward to working with families, staff, and supporters to help make this a successful year for our students.
